BRAVE NEW WORLD
SHAPING OUR FUTURE

The world is changing, with our economy and systems of governance shifting more and more into something new and foreign. The Covid-19 crisis was just one among many in a century that has so far been characterized by democratic backsliding, increasing inequality, climate inaction, and shifts in social, cultural, and economic rights.

Therefore, we have decided to focus on these changes and growing crises to allow future leaders to better understand the major global challenges we are facing.

We have chosen to name the theme as “Brave New World”, referring to the dystopian novel of Aldous Huxley who showed us how dystopias and utopias are not too far apart. This is indeed the reality we are facing – increased economic growth and growing standards of living in the global north - come at the expense of ecosystems, basic human rights in the global south, and a growing global and local inequality.

Our goal is to challenge the assumption that we are doomed, and to give delegates a window into a future based on democracy, prosperity, and cooperation.

Additionally, JLMUN 2023 is committed to the realization of a sustainable conference in accordance with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as set forward by the United Nations.  Some of the SDGs which will be focused upon include Quality Education (SDG 4), Gender Equality (SDG 5), Reducing Inequalities (SDG 10), Climate Action (SDG 13), Partnerships (SDG 17) and more.
